Trans-Siberian Railway. General information in brief

Without doubt the Trans-Siberian rail journey is on the list of many people who like to travel. And it is not surprising as it is one of the world’s greatest train journeys! The original route crosses the entire length of Russia from Moscow to Vladivostok, 8 time zones, covers 9,828 km, and is the longest railway in the world.
The Train-Siberian Railway is the name given to the rail routes that travers Siberia from Moscow. So these are routes, not the trains. There is no such a train “Trans-Siberian Express” although now you can overcome half of the route by a railway cruise train “Baikal tale” that starts in Moscow and ends at Baikal lake. But the entire Trans-Siberian Route implies 3 principal routes, with multiple train services along them:
- The Trans-Siberian crosses the entire Russia from one end to another, from Moscow (or St.Petersburg) via Kazan, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Khabarovsk to Vladivistok that is on the cost of the Pacific ocean. Despite the Transsib is so long there are not too many cities and towns along the route – just 87 or one town for each 107 km. Most of settlements are located to the west of lake Baikal, to the east of it there are just 19 or one town for each 201 km.
- The Trans-Mongolian follows the same route from Moscow as far as Irkutsk, then branches south via Ulanbataatar, capital of Mongolia, to Bijing in China
- The Trans-Manchurian follows that route further , past Ulan-Ude to Chita and then crosses Chinese border to Bijing

The Trans-Manchurian route is not functioning at the moment, because the railway connection between Russia and China was suspended during the Covid and has not been reactivated. But the other 2 routes are available.

Your Trans-Siberian route would depend on the length of your holiday and on the number of days you are ready to spend exploring Russia. The recommended number of days are 14, 2 weeks. We can plan a nice trip with great stopovers in the cities along the route taking into consideration this number of days.

Herebelow is one of the itineraries that is the most popular among the visitors who join a Trans-Siberian tour
